Bob's obituary
Robert ‘Bob’ Joseph O’Brien, 69, of Lombard, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on October 7, 1955, and raised in Oak Park, Illinois, Bob was a proud Oak Parker through and through. He carried his deep-rooted friendships from childhood throughout his life, maintaining a close-knit group of friends who stood by him to the very end.
Bob faced cancer with extraordinary resilience and grace, never allowing pain or hardship to overshadow his joy for life. His greatest triumph during his fight was living long enough to welcome all six of his beloved grandchildren into the world - a source of immense pride and purpose for him.
Bob will be remembered as a devoted father, loving grandfather, cherished partner, proud uncle, and loyal friend. He was known for his quick wit, his silly humor, and his ability to make anyone laugh. A gifted storyteller, Bob loved sharing memories of his upbringing in Oak Park, his adventures, and the everyday moments that brought him joy. He had a brilliant mind and friendly personality, always ready to talk sports, politics, or simply enjoy time with those he loved.
Bob found joy in life’s simple pleasures - watching sports, playing games, vacationing in Florida, and spending meaningful time with family.
He is survived by his loving partner, Karyn Liberti; his children, Kevin O’Brien, Meghan Kautz (née O’Brien), and Jen Spears (née Liberti); and his adored grandchildren, Quinn, Rory, and Camden O’Brien, Theodore and Colin Kautz, and Mason Spears. He is also survived by his siblings, Tim O’Brien, Judy Burns (née O’Brien), and Robin Berger (née O’Brien). He was preceded in death by his brother John O’Brien and his parents, John and Beverly O’Brien (née Reidy).
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. The family invites you to honor Bob in your own way - perhaps by sharing a favorite memory, raising a toast in his name, or spending time with those you love.
