Bob's obituary
Robert “Bob” Oakley, 81, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, in Lone Tree, Colorado.
Born on June 13, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, Bob lived a full and committed life as a physician, father, grandfather, and lover of speed—whether on two wheels or four. He practiced pulmonary and internal medicine for 52 years with compassion and integrity, earning the trust and gratitude of countless patients over the decades.
Bob earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Louisville, and proudly served as a Navy medical doctor in San Diego. He carried that same sense of purpose and calm into his civilian medical career, where his quiet presence and sharp mind made him a steady hand in the lives of many.
Outside of medicine, Bob had a deep love for motorcycles—riding was his favorite way to unwind and enjoy the world around him. He also had an eye for cool cars (especially Porsches), and took great joy in a good drive. A true sports enthusiast, he rarely missed a college basketball game—always rooting for his Louisville Cardinals—and loved watching just about any sporting event.
Bob is survived by his three children—Kelley, Josh, and Shane—and his five grandchildren, who brought him so much joy: Gracie (12), Ayla (10), Wyatt (6), Ezra (1), and Savannah (4 months). Though divorced, he remained close with his former wife and longtime friend, Leila, whose support and companionship were constants in his life. He also shared his home over the years with many cherished dogs and cats, each one a loved and loyal companion, especially his Great Dane dog, Kara and his Siamese cat, Max.
Those who knew Bob will remember his dry wit and unwavering loyalty to the people he cared about. He loved deeply, thought carefully, and found joy in the simple things—family, loud motorcycles & cars, and a good game on TV.
