Robert's obituary

Robert “Bob” Vincent Murphy, 81, of Naperville, IL, former longtime resident of Glen Ellyn, passed away on September 30, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born September 15, 1937 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Francis and Helene (Dowling) Murphy.

Bob attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he played basketball, was the President of the Student Union and enrolled in the Air Force ROTC. He met Sheila, his college sweetheart, when they were both performing in “Paint Your Wagon.” After marrying in 1960, Bob was stationed in Korea before returning to Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida and then Lincoln, Nebraska. Following his military service, Bob worked for IBM in Milwaukee and Madison, WI before settling in Glen Ellyn, IL. Bob will be remembered for his intelligence, sharp wit and amazing ability to offer advice on any subject.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sheila (nee Scott) and his children, Mark, Shawne Murphy Johnson, Scott (Alicia), and Megan (Dan) Bergin. He will be remembered fondly by eight grandchildren, Murphy, Cooper and Quinn Johnson, Samantha and Alexis Murphy, Finn, Nora and Maeve Bergin, his brother, Frank (Claire) and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 2220 Lisson Road, Naperville, IL. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a church luncheon immediately following the ceremony.
