I had not known Bob as long as many rose folks have, but the times we interacted were a joy. When Bob came to Roseville, CA. to speak at my rose society (Sierra Foothills Rose Society) we had the opportunity to sit down at the home of the host and had a nice conversation where we got to know one another. When I became President of the Sierra Foothills Rose Society and the pandemic shut thing down I set-up video conferencing so rose folks could have meetings that were streamed, I invited Bob to join in. Bob was willing to try something new and he joined one of our video conferencing meeting...to see what it was like.
Well ARS began having various live streamed events.
In 2021 the Sierra Foothills Rose Society hosted the Northern California-Nevada-Hawaii Fall District Conference live streamed on ZOOM. Bob was invited to be one of the speakers. Well Bob had another commitment that weekend. I told Bob that I could record him doing his presentation...Well Bob being the personable gentleman that he is, he was reluctant as he loves the personal interaction with an audience. I told Bob that wouldn't be a problem as I would invite Board members of the Sierra Foothills Rose Society to be in attendance when I record his presentation... They would laugh at his jokes, have a q/a session, clap for Bob...etc. However, if someone heckled him, I wasn't responsible! Well Bob was willing to do his program on ZOOM with a live audience and the recording went very well.
As it turned out Bob was freed up and presented his program Live on ZOOM.
I am still in SHOCK of Bob's passing and will greatly miss him as who not only is a personable gentleman, but one who is not afraid to think out of the box.
