Robert's obituary

Robert "Gordon" Loomer, 79, of Georgetown, passed away in his home on March 1, 2025. He was born in New Chatham, New Brunswick, Canada to Al and Maurine Loomer on 3/14/1945.  Not long after the family moved to Wisconsin, first to Milton and then to Green Bay, where he and his four brothers were raised.  Needless to say, they were devoted to the best team to ever play football - The Packers.  After completing a business administration degree at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, he served in the Army with the Berlin Brigade.  Upon his return to the states, he took more accounting classes.  His professional career involved accounting and insurance auditing.

After moving from San Antonio to Austin, he met Sally Adler and her son Shane.  Gordon and Sally were avid ballroom dancers, tennis players and active in their church.  He loved golf and played whenever time allowed.  He received much gratification from coaching youth basketball as well as every Saturday at First Tee - Greater Austin (Coach of the Year 2021).  Many of his golf students referred to him as "Coach Gordon" when they ran into him after high school graduation.

Looking back, Shane greatly appreciates the guidance and encouragement Gordon gave him.  Shane and Madi gave him two beautiful grandchildren (Willow-6 and Bear Mason-1) who refer to him as "Papa Gordy". He is survived by his wife Sally, son and family, and brothers Norm (Sue), Tom (Linda), Rick (Debbie), in addition to many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother Jack (Evie).

Gordon will be remembered for his kindness, patience, humility and loyalty -- traits rarely seen in one person. He fought congestive heart failure, never giving up, knowing that God was waiting with open arms.

The service will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen at 10:00AM, May 5, 2025.  30 minutes advance arrival required.  Following, at 11:45AM, a Memorial Celebration will be held at The Den at Wolf Ranch at 129 Canyon View Rd, Georgetown, Tx 78628.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Tee - Greater Austin.
