I am unable to attend the informal Celebration of Life on June 24 but I do want the family to know how much I admired Bob, his devotion to his family and wife Jean, his skill as an educator and his work through his church and service to others. He was a positive and caring influence on so many people - probably countless impacts when you consider his long teaching career. I was fortunate to call Bob & Jean friends for over 40 years and will miss them. I feel blessed to have known them. May your many happy family memories comfort all of you.

My favorite memory of Bob Moorhead took place on a slow afternoon at the Moorhead reunion in Sunriver, Oregon eons ago. Conversations had morphed into a catatonic state. I looked at Bob and said: “You up for some fun?” Bob said: “Like what?” We quietly took off and went pedal to the metal down a dirt road along the Deschutes River, slewing my Toyota Previa from side to side in the soft sand and even getting a little air under the tires. Bob laughed his buns off the whole way. When we got to the bottom of a steep cataract formed long ago by a lava dam across the river, we talked with a ranger who told us about some fools who once tried to canoe the cataract and lost their lives because of it. We took the return trip at a more sedate pace and found that folks were still locked in recanting old stories. Jean Moorhead, however, quickly walked up to us and berated Bob for taking off like that. I interrupted her to state unequivocally that it was all my doing and that, if she had a beef about it, she should take it up with me. She looked at both of us in disgust and stormed away. Bob looked at me with a smile and said: “Thanks.” I never found out if that meant thanks for a fun trip. Or thanks for getting him into trouble. Or thanks for getting him out of trouble. No matter what, we had a great trip!

So sorry to hear about Bob’s passing. He always made me feel special and listened to. One of my favorite Bob stories was when he went fishing in the Bay with his buddy and ended up capsizing and hanging onto a ship in the Richmond Marina- and he laughed about it! He was an amazing, caring gentleman.
