Robert “Jon”'s obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of a remarkable and joyous individual, Robert "Jon" Hodoya, who passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024. Born on the 4th of July, 1931, Jon indeed represented the spirit of independence, strength, and resilience that we associate with his birth date.

A man of rock-solid principles and values, Jon served with honor and courage, joining the U.S Marine Corp in 1950. His spirit of dedication and duty served as an inspiration for others, exemplifying the true meaning of selfless service.

Jon was a man of simple pleasures. He loved the traditional comfort of a good sandwich paired with iced tea. He also found joy in the classic show M.A.S.H. In his free time, Jon loved the tranquility and patience that came from a good day of fishing, always ready with a tale about the one that got away.

A friend to all, Jon was especially compassionate towards dogs. His super friendly and happy demeanor ensured that he made friends wherever he went, whether with two-legged humans or four-legged canines.

Jon always had a piece of wisdom to share with those around him. Remembered for his advice to "choose your battles no matter how big or small," Jon encouraged everyone to practice discretion and patience in their dealings, a testament to his wise and understanding nature. His legacy, "Always know when it's time to leave," is a poignant reminder to appreciate every moment, but also to recognize when it's time to move forward, a principle he embodied until the very end.

We celebrate his life lived to the fullest, steeped in love, service, and simple pleasures. His life was a testament to his strength, his compassion, and his sheer joy of existence. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

I honor of Jon’s wishes there will be no formal ceremony.  Robert “Jon” Hodoya final resting place will be at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery located in Elwood, Il.
