Robert John's obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert John “Anvil” Thompson announces his death after a brief illness on December 25, 2019 in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the age of 68. Robert was born on July 14, 1951 in Queens, New York to Ann Rose Guido and John Howard Thompson. He was the oldest of 6 children who grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1970. He went to culinary school while playing drums in numerous rock bands. He lived in New York, New Orleans, and San Francisco while he toured across the country and in Europe.
He met his wife Barbara Weeks in California in 1987. They were married four years later in Lake Tahoe and had two beautiful children, Dylan and Lindsy. After 12 years as a caring stay-at-home father in Chicago, the family moved to Cary, North Carolina and opened Anvil’s Cheesesteaks in 2010. Robert was a gifted chef, a naturally talented musician and also the funniest man in any room. He is survived by his wife Barbara and their children Dylan Thompson and Lindsy Weeks, his sisters Karen Thompson McLain, Lorraine Thompson Ward, Christine Thompson Borish, his brother Jack Thompson, his uncle George Thompson, and all of their families. A reception will be held from 3-5PM on Saturday, January 4th, at the Mayton Inn in downtown Cary.
