Bob's obituary
Robert John Lyons
October 9, 1942 – December 13, 2025
Robert John Lyons — “Bob” to everyone who knew and loved him — passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, in San Ramon, California, at the age of 83. A devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, loyal friend, and respected professional, Bob was the kind of person whose quiet strength and steady love shaped the lives of those around him in countless, lasting ways.
Born on October 9, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, Bob was the son of John and Mary (“May”) Lyons and the younger brother of his cherished sister, Helen. He grew up in the Bronx and remained deeply connected to his New York roots throughout his life. After graduating from Manhattan College — where he became a lifelong fan of the Jaspers basketball team — Bob went on to serve in the Marine Corps, a chapter of his life he took great pride in.
Bob began his career as a computer programmer at Bankers Trust Company and went on to spend his entire professional life in banking. His work took him to London on two separate occasions — experiences he treasured — and in 1986, he and his family moved to California, where he became a Senior Vice President at Bank of America. Through every role, Bob was known for his integrity, intelligence, and strong, steady leadership. He earned the admiration of his colleagues and was deeply respected by those who worked with him.
In 1967, Bob married the love of his life, Marianne. They were true partners for 58 wonderful years, building a life filled with love, laughter, and family. Together they raised four children — Pamela, Ken (Jennifer), Courtney (Danielle), and Cynthia (Mike Crkvenac) — and Bob took great pride in watching his family grow. He was a deeply devoted father and an adoring grandfather to thirteen grandchildren: Kelly (Tyler Larson), Rachel, Dylan, Ashley, Emily, Kristen, Ava, Brady, Joey, Megan, Gianna, Summer, and Ford. Nothing brought him greater joy than being surrounded by the people he loved most.
Bob was a man of deep passions and simple joys. He was a loyal and lifelong fan of the New York Mets, the New York Giants, and his beloved Jaspers — cheering them on no matter the season. He also had a lifelong love of movies, and in his later years, shared that love as the movie critic for the Sons in Retirement (SIRS), where his thoughtful reviews were a highlight for many.
Bob was a lifelong Catholic and a devoted member of St. Isidore’s Parish in Danville, where he worshiped faithfully for 39 years. He could be found at the 4:00 PM Mass every Saturday — a quiet but steady presence in his church community, just as he was in all areas of his life. His faith was a guiding force, woven into the way he lived, loved, and led.
Above all, Bob will be remembered for the kind of person he was: loyal, steady, generous, and completely devoted to his family. He was the one you could count on — the quiet presence who made everyone feel safe, the one who always showed up, the one whose love was constant and whose laughter, once sparked, was unforgettable.
Bob’s life was a gift, and he leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and deep connection. He will be missed more than words can say.
