Ken brought his smiling face & courage to each meeting thus inspiring others. He was most courageous & always thanks us for holding these meetings. He'll always be remembered. SL
Dear Rose and Family, Thank you for sharing Ken's memorial with us all. I knew Ken only from the monthly UCSF brain tumor group but always loved his energy and heartfelt words. My sincere condolences on your loss - he'll be in our hearts for years to come. Best, Rukshan
Thanks to Rose for gathering our old clan of college roomies. Rose & Ken made the long drive up to our dear friends Laurie & Jim’s house for a fabulous brunch. We all laughed & remembered all the good times we had. One of the things I will remember best about Ken is his laugh & wonderful smile! A life filled with laughter & love is as good as we can hope for. ♥️

So many stories, but a favori…
2005, Cafe Riggio, San Francisco
So many stories, but a favorite is about going to one of our now long closed favorite restaurants. We would always order too much food, but on one particular night, thanks to Ken’s enthusiasm, ordered many desserts and especially requested one that was simply a recipe written on the wall of the restaurant. The chef was most obliging. We returned in formal attire another time in 2005 for the closing dinner of the restaurant. The owner joined us at our table (on the right of the photo) and was blown away that we dressed up to celebrate his retirement. Cheers to you, Ken.

These two party animals came out to see my band’s last show before Covid! They watched the show from the front row and my friends were so impressed ! Thank you for all your kindness and support throughout the years, Ken—miss you ❤️

I will miss you Ken. I will always remember your smiling face. We became good friends as I got to know you and Rose through our monthly Flame meetings and annual pot luck dinner.
On one Cursillo weekend, I went down to the kitchen to see you with your coffee machine and making each of us coffee to order. Much better than Starbuck's! I really appreciated that personal touch. What a blessing you and Rose have been in my life!

Rose, what a lovely tribute to Ken you have written; you were lucky to have found each other. I was so glad Ken was able to come to the Walter Hays reunions. I remember the one before last, when Greg Brown was entertaining people with tales of his exploits during high school and young adulthood, which my late husband George found wildly entertaining. He said Ken, who was sitting next to Greg, had eyes as big as silver dollars as he listened to Greg. That was the first time George met Greg, and they hit it off immediately. It's somehow nice to think of Greg once again entertaining Ken and George in front of the fire with more stories of his adventures.

Hi Rose, I’m sad to hear about Ken and offer my condolences to you and your lovely family. It was such a pleasure to see you both at our GSB reunion a year ago. Although I was surprised to see Ken in a wheelchair, we both lit up when our eyes met, and for good reason! You see, we always had the same silly greeting at LPF’s. I would jokingly rag on SAP while he would just smile, look away and ignore me. And when I shut up, he would politely correct me in one sentence. We laughed and chugged beers. I don’t know how it started or why it continued, but it sure felt the same the last time I saw Ken, just without the silly words. And Rose, it’s with that fondness that I wrap my heart around his memory. May God bless you all!

Rose, this is Lauren from the UCSF brain tumor support group, I am so sorry to hear! I happened to stumble across this in Alexa‘s email today I had no idea that Ken passed and have been thinking of you both for many months. I actually had sent a note to Mary back on November 24 and I’m not sure it ever got to you... :(

I cried when I heard and want you to know that I am sending you so much love! What a wonderful, strong man he was, it is so fun to see these pictures of him, and how much adoration the two of you had for each other always really impressed me. You would finish his sentences and it seemed like you were each other’s ballast, keeping one another even keeled thru love and compassion. I hope you still feel that today how much he appreciated everything and your sticking by his side to figure out life out and what it throws your way. I wish I could give you a big eye squint masked smile and hug!! I will tune in on Saturday of course, wouldn’t miss it xoxo

Rose and the rest of the Innes Family,
Despite knowing that Ken was ill, it was hard to hear that he passed. Ken was an Angel sent here from God. May he sleep secure in peace. May you find comfort in knowing that one day we will join him at the banquet table of the Lord, when we are all called on the last day. May you find some comfort in knowing that Ken was loved and appreciated. His love will remain in our hearts.

Such sad news Rose. I’m so grateful we got to see you & Ken & remember all the great times we shared in our college days! I’ll never forget how happy you both looked riding from the church to your reception on the bicycle built for two!💙

My favorite memory is of the day I watched Rose and Ken walk the labyrinth at St. Edmund's, and every time they were near each other, they stopped and kissed. They were blessed by their love.

I actually have known Ken, and his younger brother, Jeff, since elementary school in Palo Alto (Jeff was in my class and Ken was a year ahead of us). My family had a very young, hilarious dog named Ginger, who was part miniature poodle and part Ihasa Apso. Ginger was whip smart but he also had a problem; he was an alcoholic, as he repeatedly demonstrated at every party my parents gave by drinking all the guests’ gin and tonics (that’s actually how “Gin”ger got his name). After one such event when Ginger was about nine months old, my father announced he’d had it with Ginger. The parties would go on, but Ginger had to go. My mother was a Cub Scout troop leader with Jeff and Ken’s mother, and Mrs. Innes, feeling great compassion for our little pooch, said they would adopt Ginger. I was despondent, as I really loved Ginger; he was my first puppy. Ken saw me in tears when my mom and I delivered Ginger to their house. For quite a stretch after that, Ken would walk to school with Ginger (on a leash) and wait for me outside my classroom, just so I could see and hug my beloved pet. Even at a young age, Ken was incredibly tuned in and found ways to quietly express his immense kind-heartedness. He never stopped being that way. In our first year at the GSB, he saw me one day (likely after a Statistics exam) looking somewhat stricken, and he just came up to me and, without saying a word, gave me a huge hug. That was Ken.

Ken, and his beloved Rose, were wonderful friends during our GSB days. We had so many wonderful conversations about a wide range of interests. Always brilliant, always with a smile on his face. He will be missed by his classmates. May his memory be for a blessing.
