Bob's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Holland, loving son, brother, husband, father, and Retired Air Force Technical Sergeant. 

Robert Lee Holland, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on July 14, 2024 at 6:38 pm in Surprise, Arizona. 

Born on December 5, 1958, in Elkhart, Indiana to Betty (Wenger) Holland and Harold Holland.  

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy {Evans} Holland, whom he married in 2020, and his son, Gary Holland, born December 23, 1989. He is also survived by his step-sons, Brad and Alex Cummings, through his loving marriage to Nancy. 

He leaves behind his caring mother, Betty Wenger, and his siblings: Brothers, Daniel and Don Holland, Sisters, Jeanette {Holland} Heidenreich, Charlotte {Slater} Paulk, and Leisa {Slater} Bowling, and his many nieces and nephews. 

Bob's memory will also be cherished by his mother-in-law, Joan Evans and his brother-in-law Richard Evans.  

He will also be deeply missed by his two golden retrievers Sandy (12) and Andy (10).

Bob was predeceased by his sister Brenda {Slater} Roberts, and brothers-in-law, Todd Heidenreich and Tom Roberts. He joins his father Harold Holland, his grandparents Maxine and Noah Wenger, Lawrence and Margaret Holland, and his father-in-law Harold Evans, who have all preceded him in passing.

Bob was a proud alumnus of the Warsaw Community High School, graduating in 1977. Upon graduation he enlisted in The United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for 18 years.  

 He held two respected careers in his life, retiring from the US Air Force in 1995 and later from B and D Litho in 2020. 

During his time in the United States Air Force he was awarded the following awards and decorations. Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon with device, National Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 3 devices, Professional Military Education Ribbon with 1 device, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon/Rifle, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 devices, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 4 devices. 

He served in Operation Desert Shield/Storm from August 2, 1990 to June 30, 1995. 

He was a man of many passions. Though not much of a reader, his love for music was expansive, ranging from Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, and Bee Gees, to John Denver, Carpenters, and Neil Diamond. 

Bob had a deep appreciation and collection for local Arizona art.

He was a dedicated fan of the Arizona Cardinals and the Diamondbacks. 

He enjoyed walking his dogs Sandy and Andy, playing casino slots, visiting the wildlife zoo and traveling.

His favorite places to vacation were Las Vegas, Key West,  Hawaii, San Francisco, Disney World, and the beach.

Beyond his personal interests, Bob was passionately involved in supporting Disabled Veterans and the Wounded Warrior Project.

Bob's passing leaves an immeasurable void in our hearts, but his spirit, his passion, and his love for life will always live on within us. His life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and joy. He will be deeply missed. 

Robert Lee Holland will be buried with military honors on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 10:00 am at The National Cemetery of Arizona. 2929 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, Phoenix, 85024.
