Robert's obituary
Robert Koehl Halliday Jr.
May 27th, 1954 - Jan 1st 2023
Bob died of Glioblastoma after a nearly 4 year battle. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Bob was born to Robert and Mary Pat Halliday in Levittown, NY where he was raised. He attended Holy Trinity High School, and afterward he went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University of Rhode Island where his friends knew him as Doc. After graduating, a love of adventure and the outdoors drew Bob to Colorado.
In Colorado he met his future wife Joan. After living a few different places in Colorado they wound up in Steamboat Springs. The two of them found a warm community that welcomed them in Steamboat Springs, and they ended up being married at nearby Rabbit Ears Pass in 1982. Near Steamboat, Bob found many adventures. He loved hiking and skiing in a beautiful mountain setting. In Colorado, he began his career as an electrician. He first became an apprentice wireman for the local 969 in Grand Junction. He went on to become a journeyman in 1986. Bob’s first son Koehl was born in Colorado in 1987, and work would take Bob to Oregon in 1988 where he lived the rest of his life.
Upon arrival to Oregon he found work at the coast, and his young family made fond memories living by the beach in Seaside as well as in McMinnville. He eventually settled in Oregon City where his second son Eric was born. He began working for Oregon Electric where he would eventually become an electrical superintendent. He helped to coordinate the building of complex projects like hospitals, schools, airports, and high rises. He appreciated the camaraderie of many of his colleagues; some of whom became his very close friends.
Bob was a very active man. He enjoyed walking, running, hiking, skiing, fishing, travel, and loved to play sports. Some of the favorite trips he took included travel to the Galapagos Islands, trekking in Bhutan, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro for his 50th birthday, and a number of trips to Alaska. He loved watching the birds in exotic places, but also in his own backyard. He had a keen eye and was often the first to spot wildlife. He always had great fun while fishing, especially with his two sons. His laughter was infectious, it would pull you in to laugh with him. You could rarely find him without a positive attitude, regardless of what problem he was faced with.
He is survived by his Children, Koehl, Eric, and Miriam as well as his wife Joan, and his three sisters, Debbie, Diane, and Maryclaire, and their families. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him. Celebrations of life for Bob will be held in the coming spring and summer, details will be announced when arrangements are completed.
