Bob's obituary
Robert Edwin Gnos, 79, a resident of the North Plains community passed away on September 24, 2021 at OHSU Hillsboro Medical Center.
Bob was born on June 5,1942 in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was the youngest of five children born to Arnold and Mary (Boge) Gnos. He was raised in Hillsboro and graduated from Hill High School with the Class of 1960.
After high school, Bob attended OSU where he earned his bachelor’s degree in General Science. He met his future wife, Sylvia Jean Basney, when she was picking up her brothers from strawberry picking at the Gnos farm. After a year long courtship, they were married on June 14, 1963. They made their home in Corvallis while Bob finished college.
After college he attended USA INF School and was drafted into the Army as a Second Lieutenant. He moved his family to Germany while he served. In 1965, Bob and Sylvia moved to Hillsboro and in 1969, they bought a farm and made their home in North Plains on Pumpkin Ridge Rd. Bob worked at Irvington-Moore Log Boss Systems until retiring.
Bob always had several projects in process on the farm and was truly, a jack of all trades. He enjoyed working on and restoring old planes at the Hillsboro Airport and loved teaching his grandson Tyler any useful skill he could from building birdhouses, riding a quad, to running a chainsaw, all skills he felt were necessary for a young boy to learn. He was very active with the Post 6 American Legion and served as Post Commander. He was also an integral part of the formation of the North Plains Garlic Festival as a way of marketing local goods and bringing notice to the small community of North Plains.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sylvia “Jean”, his parents Arnold, Mary, and two siblings; Arnold “Vernon” and Ilene Elizabeth.
He is survived by his children; Dayna Radford of North Plains, Rex Gnos of Hillsboro, three grandchildren; Stephanie, Jonathan, Gregory and eleven great children; Alycia, Triston, Addisyn, Tyler, Julian, Skyler, Arianna, Colton, Kane, Liberty, and Rory.
