Robert's obituary
Along the way Robert fell into the grips of substance abuse addition. Robert was a true soldier of recovery, and actively participated in Cocaine Anonymous Los Angeles for 29 years of sobriety. He became involved with the 12 step recovery programs, AA, NA, and CA. Eventually dedicating the majority of his service work with CA while still helping with other fellowships. He worked tirelessly with Hospitals and Institutions (H&I) taking the message of recovery on the road. It is no exaggeration to state that Robert became a “rock” of the sobriety community, touching those whom he encountered. He truly understood the principle of “You can’t keep it, unless you give it away”. Wherever he went: on vacation, on a bus, or waiting in a line he would share his story and reach out to help anyone he knew that needed support. Robert loved nothing more than taking cakes on his sobriety birthday, December 25th (1989) sponsored many people who owe their sobriety in part to his love and support. He served as a speaker in many workshops, participated in marathon meetings, recreational activities, and special events that added to the true spirit of recovery and fellowship.
Robert worked a few traditional jobs after graduation but soon found that 9 to 5 was not for him. So, he embarked on a path as an entrepreneur and he started his own business, “Reach for the Sky”. He was committed to being self-supporting through his own contributions by working as an independent consultant in the mortgage business, and most recently promoting for “Another Level of Praize” and many night clubs in Los Angeles. He was a multi-tasker who knew how to get the job done. He was known in all circles for his being loyal, loving, and committed to anything he touched.
Robert loved family and would often travel to the Bay Area for visits with his sister and parents. He especially enjoyed the annual trip to Las Vegas with his brother-in-law and father which grew to include cousins and friends over the years. With those he considered brothers and sisters, Robert spent many holidays, attended numerous graduations, and participated in countless conferences.
Robert’s homegoing came suddenly on December 29, 2018, and as is befitting, at a meeting where he planned to share his story and take a cake to celebrate 29 years of sobriety. At the time of his passing Robert was a member in good standing of the Bible Believers Missionary Baptist Church in Lakewood, CA. He leaves to cherish his precious memory, father Robert C. Glover, mother Jacqueline Glover, sister Lisa Glover-Gardin, brother in-law Barry N. Gardin, niece Karra Gardin, nephew Christopher Gardin, and many extended family members, and friends too numerous to list.
All those who knew and loved Robert C. Glover will mourn his loss deeply.
