Robert's obituary

Dr. Robert “Bob” Lawrence Gervey, aged 68, of Levittown NY died peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday, August 19th, 2025. Born and raised in Levittown, NY, he was son of the late Melvin “Mel” and Yvette Gervey. He was preceded by his late sister, Shelly Gervey.

Bob was a devoted spouse and father, valuing family the utmost. In his early years, Bob married (1986-2005) Oriana Linares and had a child, Eric Gervey. He later reconnected with, and was happily married to, his college sweetheart Cindy Ashkins in 2008. In addition to being a wonderful father to Eric, he took on a fatherly role for Mark Kalusha and Ari Curerra, showing an impressive generosity of spirit that characterized him.

In addition to his familial responsibilities, Bob took seriously his role as friend. His lifelong friendships, some of which were forged since early childhood, are a testament to his unique ability to connect with others. Often these relationships were further cemented with shared feats of endurance, exemplified by grueling multiple-hour tennis matches, hiking towering mountain peaks, and completing ironman-level bicycle rides.

Bob was both academically and professionally accomplished. His graduate degrees included a Masters in Clinical Psychopharmacology, a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a Post-Doc in treatment of severe mental illness. He held several academic appointments, traveled the world giving talks on areas of his professional expertise, directed various social service programs, started a successful consulting business, and in his later years, developed a thriving private practice.

Bob will be remembered for a remarkable zest for life that was impossible to ignore. His sudden loss leaves a hole without remedy. He will be deeply missed.
