Robert's obituary

A Life Well Lived (July 8, 1932 – June 14, 2021)

Robert Lloyd Gaddy, 88, passed away June 14th at Saint Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born on July 8, 1932, In St Louis, Missouri to Abbie Iona Skiles Gaddy(1906-1993) and Millard C. Gaddy(1905-1970) and grew up with his siblings Maurice E. Gaddy (1924-1982), Loleeta Pauline Gaddy Malone(1928-2003), Oneeta Eileen Gaddy Stimson(1929-2013) and William Jerry Gaddy (1942-2018). On December 23, 1955, he married Yvonne Jo Gaddy at the McCoy Air Force Base in Orlando, Florida. He had transferred to Orlando from Iceland in the U.S. Air Force working as a Teletype Operator. This began his long-lasting love of the state of Florida.

As well as a proud veteran of the US Air Force he was a lifelong Mason and Shriner. His early jobs included work with the US Geological Survey Team surveying roads in the western US. He worked for Electrolux for over 20 years and was a proud self-owner of Gaddy Industries where he was a Real Estate Broker. Later he joined his wife in the owner operated travel agencies Yvonne's Travel House and Gadabout and together they circled the globe several times to include 6 continents and over 50 countries. Robert had a thirst for knowledge and an appreciation of all things nature. He took classes at both Rollins College and University of Florida and was an avid reader of non-fiction books. He was an entertainer by nature and could play any instrument by ear. After moving to the Masonic Home of Florida he was known as both the "Candy Man" and the "Piano Man" and loved to have an audience. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years and children Abbe Elizabeth Hirschler(Alex), Robert Shawn Gaddy(Michele), Kevin Allen Gaddy and Robin Maurice Gaddy(Jackie) five grandchildren, Jessica(Jeff), Caitlin, Brooke, Zachary, and Sabena, three great grandchildren, Faith, Aylah and Ellie, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all four of his siblings and two grandchildren Krystal Aschere and Zachary. In an effort to better the world, he donated his corneas to research.
