Bob's obituary
Robert William “Bob” Dove, 79, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025, at Evergreen Cottages.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy at just 16 years and 10 months old, serving as an Electrical Engineer and traveling around the globe. His Navy years shaped him with discipline, resourcefulness, and a lifetime of stories—many shared with a dry, understated humor that left listeners smiling long after he finished. His service was a defining chapter of his life, and he carried it with quiet pride and dignity throughout his years.
Following his service, Bob devoted 35 years to Total Petrochemical in La Porte, Texas, where his colleagues admired his technical skill, steady problem-solving, and calm presence. He approached life with independence, practicality, and quiet confidence, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Reserved by nature, he rarely spoke of his feelings, but his love and loyalty were unmistakable to those closest to him.
Bob found joy in the simple pleasures of life—tending his garden, spinning Hank Williams and classic blues records, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Some of his most cherished family memories were everyday moments: summer afternoons in the garden, washing fresh radishes at the hose and sharing them straight from the soil, and dancing in the living room with his daughter Emily, her standing on his feet as they laughed and twirled to “Hey, Good Lookin’”.
Family was Bob’s greatest pride. He expressed his love through time, effort, and shared experiences. He worked tirelessly so his children and grandchildren could enjoy trips and adventures that became family lore—South Padre Island, San Antonio, the Grand Canyon, Dollywood, and countless others. Though his affection was often quiet, it was unwavering and deeply felt. The loss of his daughter Amy stayed with him throughout his life, and in passing, he has now been reunited with her, a comfort to all who loved them both.
Bob lived by his principles, valuing loyalty, honesty, and tradition. He left a lasting impact not through grand gestures, but through his presence, his actions, and the way he cared for those around him. His dry wit, integrity, and steady guidance shaped the lives of his grandchildren, his daughter, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. His absence leaves a profound void, yet his stories, lessons, and love will continue to guide those he cherished.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Emily (Christopher); grandchildren Geoff, Rebecca (Timothy), Sarah, Neo, Ava, and Ruby; sisters Donna, Sharon, and Alva; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Amy, his parents Woodrow and Valerie, and sisters Judy, Charlotte, and Margaret.
Bob will be remembered as a proud Navy veteran, a man who lived life on his own terms, and someone whose presence, humor, and love will continue to inspire his family. His life leaves a lasting imprint on all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Evergreen Cottages and Vantage Hospice in Katy, Texas—especially Syed, Vanessa, Maria, Marie, and Sharmette—for their compassion and care. They also thank all who loved Bob, worked alongside him, and helped shape the man he became.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared once arrangements are finalized.
