Robert's obituary
On Friday, January 31, 2025 Robert DePalma, aged 59, of Cary, IL took off on his last big adventure. He was surrounded by his immediate family up until the end (which may explain his hasty departure).
Bob, was born August 4, 1965 to Arthur J. DePalma and Phyllis (Urbanski) DePalma. Bob grew up in North Riverside and attended Mater Christi and then later on St. Joseph’s High School. While growing up Bob dabbled in many sports and excelled at even more. While at St. Joe’s he was a star member of their football team, for all four years. While he was a star player in high school, one of his biggest accomplishments was being able to wear his letterman jacket just last spring.
For the last several years Bob has resided in Cary, IL. Even though he repeatedly told his little sister he’d leave the state, but he kept picking women weirdly attached to the not so great state of Illinois. At least he can’t make that mistake again. During that time, Bob has been a large part of the Northwest suburban community and is affectionately known as the “Fish Guy” throughout local farmers markets. Even though we know Bob as the “Fish Guy’ now, he previously was known as “The Wine Guy” when he ran the Wine Peddler in Algonquin with his father. He was a man of many hats and even more pairs of underwear.
Most of all, Bob was fun and didn’t take life seriously. He never had a plan or a way to get there, but always big ideas. Anywhere Bob went he made a friend, he also made quite a few enemies. To that nurse in the ER, I’m sure he’s sorry and I’m sure your ass isn’t THAT fat.
While he had no biological children of his own (thank God, with his medical DNA) there are dozens of kids who knew him as Uncle, Grandpa and Dad (we will not be naming all these children he was Bob not Nick Cannon) Bob was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Phyllis DePalma. He is survived and sorely missed by his sisters Diane DePalma and Carolyn DePalma, his life partner P Kizzle, (will the real Kelly Peggy please stand up) his beloved dog, Molly Rose, aunt, uncles and cousins.
There are no services at the moment due to the winds of life. When the storm passes the family may organize one. Such is life, good thing he’ll never read this and good thing he was never on time.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the National Kidney Foundation and your local animal rescue.
Oh and if you think this obituary is ridiculous
, you’re right. But so is life, I’ll miss you big brother. Someday we’ll back on our big excellent adventures.
