My favorite memory of Carlo was watching him dance the night away at a friend's wedding! He was always a gentleman, always smiling!
Carlo taught me to always find the good in people and to enjoy life to the fullest extent. Mostly to incorporate daily laughter in our crazy and very stressful medical staff world.

At various times in the last …
2012, Maui
At various times in the last 32 years, I was lucky enough to call Carlo my boss, my father-in-law, my fellow book lover, my confidant, and most importantly, my true friend. I loved him as a second dad, and the memories of him being "Poppa" to my two kids is something I will hold in my heart forever. He always gave me a big bear hug whenever we said goodbye, and we always said the same thing to each other. It is the only thing I can think of to say now: Thank you for our family.

It is with a very heavy heart that I render my condolences to Jennifer and Rob and all the grandkids and family. The world has lost one of its finest. Men like Carlo are a rarity. He represented the brightest of the bright, combined with infinite caring and wisdom, and had a larger than life personality with many, many talents. He was an outstanding lawyer; the brightest I’ve ever known. It was a great privilege to work for him for 6+ years. With Carlo at the helm we all formed and maintained lasting workplace friendships. We worked hard but had some raucous fun times too. Carlo, you will so be missed.

This video is from a party on September 5th, 2009 at the Grove's Luneta house in Del Mar where Carlo spent many happy hours.

Carlo was my first boss, my mentor, my guide through the morass of the legal world and a dear friend. It was July 4 weekend sometime in the70s when I – a newly divorced single mom and fresh out of secretarial school – first sat down at my desk in a San Diego law firm. Carlo had not had a secretary for a month or so and the legal binders were stacked high on the desk and the floor. I said to myself, I can either sink or swim. I decided to swim. But I could not have done it without Carlo’s patience and tolerance of my endless questions! We made a good team and Carlo became a lifelong friend. Four decades later, I am still using the skills I learned at his hand! I could extol Carlo’s wonderful characteristics and many brilliant talents, but they have already been beautifully elucidated in his obituary.
I know Carlo is already exploring his new horizons – and I miss him in the here and now! Happy travels, my friend!

We will miss Carlo's bright light, genius and warm affection for all! I was so fortunate to have been hired by Carlo in 1981 and he was a brilliant attorney and mentor to me as I began my practice. When Jack and I got married in 1986, Carlo wrote our vows and gave us two sterling silver goblets commemorating the wedding. The ceremony stuck! I will never forget how creative he was and how much he loved his family and friends. You could see him several years later from the last time you were together, and he was just as ebullient, full of laughter and telling stories like it had been just a few 24 hrs ago. I know we are all better men and women to have known him. Love, Mel and Jack

A true renaissance man and a kinder fellow you will never find. My 80 year old father, a huge car racing enthusiast, had never been to Europe. Carlo insisted the two of them go and attend a race at Silverstone Raceway, a famous track near London. When they returned, my father talked for weeks about the trip and what a great experience it was and how Carlo had arranged everything perfectly. In private, I thanked Carlo for taking my father on the trip and he responded, "Josh, the smile on your dad's face as we entered the race track was the highlight of the trip..." and the thing is, I could see that he really meant what he said. That's just the type of genuine friend Carlo was and I will never forget him or his generosity.
