Rickey's obituary

Robert “Rickey” Clegg Jr. beloved and treasured father, grandfather, and friend to everyone he met, passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2023, at Genesis Healthcare after a battle with a terrible foe, Liver cancer.

Rickey is predeceased by his mother Gloria Hunter, Stepmother Thelma “Tootie” Marie Clegg and his four legged companions Bear and Tucker. Left to cherish his memory are his Children and their significant others Crystal Amoia (Chris), Denise Wallace (Brian), Ashley Clegg (Bobby) and their children Ashley, Mekayla, Trevor, Karli, Olivia, Megan, Bailey, Bentley, Blake, Tanner, and Grayson. His father, Robert E. Clegg Sr. “Bob”, and three siblings Dwayne, Asa, and Tammy, along with uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews and many many close friends who were like family to him.

Rickey was born, the eldest of four children, in Dover, Delaware on October 27th, 1961 attended Smyrna High School and competed on his High School wrestling team, where he won several state championships. He followed in his father’s footsteps by beginning his career with the City of Dover, where he grew a passion for construction.

He later began his career with George and Lynch, Delmarva’s top infrastructure contractors. He shared a great passion for his work and would educate anyone that would be willing to listen and learn. He ended his career in construction with Coker concrete contractors in Delaware after an unrelated MVA accident that caused Rickey to be placed in neuro-rehabilitation care service for over 15 years.

He was still known for his generous heart and would never hesitate to help someone out. He enjoyed playing cards, bingo, music, old westerns, Rocky Movies and most of all time with family. He cherished his visits with everyone he shared memories with especially his family, friends and old work colleagues as he would still be sharp as a tack and tell entertaining stories from his younger days, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration. Even in his last few days, he would play cards, watch his favorite shows, enjoyed lavish meals and desserts while enjoying the birds, and drinking his Pepsi.
