I know that Bob loved his wife and children deeply.  He mentioned them fondly in almost all of the countless emails that we exchanged during his last 10 years.  We were best friends in high school, and I’m grateful to have reconnected with him by email.  He was a unique blend of deep intellect, strict personal honesty, and compassionate thoughtfulness.  I’ll miss him deeply, and I know that all who knew will too.  I extend my deepest sympathy and my hope for a reunion with him for all in the arms of the Lord of life.
Bob and I were best friends during high school in New Orleans. We roamed the French Quarter together and often took the ferry home across the Mississippi River. We exchanged many emails during the 10 years before his death, and he became, in some ways, again my closest confidant. I think the most fun we ever had together was when we went hiking for a few days in Smoky Mountains National Park. We were terrible campers. I once walked off down the trail for awhile and returned to find him in a tree, with a mother bear and cubs rummaging through our camp site. We checked into a nearby lodge that night. I miss him terribly.
