Bob's obituary
Robert Lee Briggs passed away at home recently from complications of colon cancer. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Patrick Briggs (Helene Harding), Samantha Ward (Derek), his stepchildren Allison White (Michael), and Bradley Hottle (Michelle). He is also survived by his grandson Anton Maund and his four step grandchildren Emily White, Peyton White, Kevin Hottle and Lauren Hottle. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Edna.
Bob was born in Tracy, CA to Clifford and Susie Briggs. He graduated from Tracy High School in 1956. He earned his letter in all four years for football, basketball and baseball winning the outstanding athlete award all four years. He also attended Boys State in Sacramento in his junior year. Bob served as president or vice-president of his class in each of his four years. He was the only representative from Tracy in 1956 to play in the North/South All-Star football game in Lodi.
Bob attended San Jose State University receiving his B.A. in Industrial Studies in 1960. During his freshman year he also played basketball and baseball. After college he joined the United States Marine Corps and went through basic training in Quantico, VA. After his military service he returned to San Jose State University and earned his M.A. plus his General Education teaching credential.
He worked for Lockheed and Applied Technology in Sunnyvale as a design drafter for seven years before he secured a teaching assignment at Washington High School in Fremont, CA. Because of his industrial background he was asked to attend U.C. Berkeley to earn his Vocational Education teaching credential which he did. Bob developed a Regional Occupational Program (ROP) in industrial drafting for Fremont Unified School District where he taught for seven years. Ohlone Community College recruited him to develop and teach an industrial drafting and engineering two year certificate program. His program was very successful at placing students in industry positions and/or transferring to a four year university. After thirteen years he was promoted to Dean of Engineering and Technology where he served until his retirement in 2000.
Bob's first marriage to Judy Rowson ended in divorce. This marriage gave him two children, Patrick and Samantha.
Bob subsequently married Nancy Hottle in Fremont, CA where they lived and worked until their retirement. After retirement Bob and Nancy moved to Summerset III in Brentwood, CA where they lived for 19 years. He enjoyed many wonderful years of golf, and they traveled to many countries around the world on cruises and bus tours. At the end of 2019 they moved to O'Connor Woods Retirement Community in Stockton, CA.
Bob was a lifelong sports fan. His favorite teams were the SF 49ers, Golden State Warriors and the NY Yankees. He also enjoyed staying current with national politics.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel on the O'Connor Woods Retirement Community campus, 3400 Wagner Heights Road, Stockton. A luncheon reception will follow.
