Robert's obituary

Robert John Boyden, 76, of Rosemount, MN, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2023. Robert (Bob) grew up in St. Paul, MN and attended South St. Paul High School, where he met his wife Sharon DeMorrett. Bob served in the Army National Guard for 6 years while attending Mankato State University. Upon graduation, he started his career as an Industrial Arts teacher at Jordan High School. After 6 years of teaching, Bob started a sporting goods business in Prior Lake, MN where he would raise his growing family. “Bob’s Sport Shop'' was a proud family business from 1976 until it closed in 1991. After closing the business, Bob worked as a Senior Slot Manager at Mystic Lake Casino until he retired in 2004 and moved to Hayward, WI full time. In retirement, Bob enjoyed golfing and snowmobiling in his adopted community of Hayward until he and Sharon moved back to the Twin Cities in 2014.

Bob will be remembered as an avid golfer and skilled craftsman. He was an active member of the Optimist Club for five years where he volunteered as a clown at local parades, schools, nursing homes and children’s hospitals, and organized golf tournaments to raise money for the community. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends and taking trips to the casino. Most of all, Bob was a family man. He adored his wife Sharon and was extremely proud to be a “girl dad.” He coached his daughter’s softball teams and attended as many basketball games, volleyball matches, soccer games, and school concerts as possible. Each summer, Bob, Sharon, and their three girls looked forward to packing up the family van and traveling coast to coast on their family vacations. Bob’s final pride and joy are his 5 grandchildren. In his final years, much of his time was spent watching the kids’ baseball, football, soccer, and basketball games. Throughout his years, Bob touched many lives with his quick wit and big heart. He left us knowing he was loved and feeling proud of the family he had built.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Bernadette Boyden, his two brothers (Ron & Ken), and his two sister-n-laws (Marilyn & Maureen). He is survived by his wife Sharon, his 3 daughters Kerri (Eric) Werner, Beth Boyden, and Krista (Mike) Campbell, and his five grandchildren (Ethan, Sean, Paige, Reid, and Boyden). A celebration of life will be held on Bob and Sharon’s 55th wedding anniversary, May 25, 2023, at Lakefront Park in Prior Lake, MN from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
