Rita's obituary
Rita Muren, age 82, passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, September 1, 2022. She was born on May 1, 1940, in Ahualulco de Mercado, approximately a one-hour drive to the West of Guadalajara, Jalisco, MX. She was very close to her mother, Rosario Valle Estrada [bottom right photo], in life and, as part of her last wishes, desired that her ashes be buried with her dear mother at Mountain View Cemetery in Calexico, CA, where a celebration of life was held on October 2, 2022.
Rita would meet the love of her life, Billy Ray Muren [top left photo] (https://tinyurl.com/4vuxz98x) in Calexico, CA, and the two would be married on November 25, 1964. Together, the couple would build a home in the house that Billy Ray Muren led construction for in 1960 with help from his parents, Irvin Albert Muren, Angie Wallace Muren, and a relative, Nathan Wallace. Together, the couple would build and own several businesses, starting with a Nursery business in the mid-1960s [top right photo] and a mobile home park in the 1970s. They both retired with the sale of the property and associated businesses in July 2016.
Rita [middle right photo] was a person of action and a devout Christian. "Hermana Rita" served in various ministries and at one time served as an ordained pastor for the local Assembly of God Church in Calexico, CA. She touched hundreds, if not thousands, of lives through her ministry. Though she became a 7th Day Adventist Church member later in life, she never lost her passion, faith in God, or love for people. Some in attendance at her remembrance were those whose lives she touched through her ministry.
Her days in active ministry ended when, while still raising children and working a business, she would also serve as the "live-in" nurse for her husband's parents, Angie Wallace Muren and Irvin Albert Muren [lower left]. Rita was their "nurse" until the day they passed away and were buried at Mt. View Cemetery in Calexico, CA. She loved Billy Ray's parents dearly.
Though Rita never served in the military, she suffered from ailments including diagnosed anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We express profound gratitude for the excellent care given to her by St. Paul's PACE Chula Vista branch, the staff at Coronado Retirement Village (Coronado, CA), and her "comfort pup" for significantly improving her quality of life in her final days after retirement. Her care workers would remember Rita as having a heart of gold and singing her favorite song as often as she liked, "Mi Pensamiento Eres Tú."
Rita would be remembered most by her son, James David Muren Sr. (a.k.a. - "D0c"), D0c's wife Jinhee, grandchildren Sarah, James Jr., and Hannah for her fantastic stories and cooking (read "tamales") during the holidays, her singing, and bringing joy to parties and their lives over the years. D0c will never forget their last adventure together at Glorietta Bay, Coronado, CA, where Rita and D0c walked together hand in hand for the last time.
D0c's final words for his mother:
"As the world mourned a great queen, I mourn for my Queen Mother. Even so, I will greet you every morning until I am transformed as you have been. I have and will continue to wrestle, struggle, fight, and prevail in this human existence until I shed this human and become like you." Ephesians 6:12
Rita is survived by five children [middle left photo, c. 1980] from her marriage with Billy Ray Muren; Roger Albert Muren, John Irvin Muren, Robert Ray Muren, James David Muren Sr. (a.k.a. - "D0c"), Angela Vela (Angela Rose Muren), and her grandchildren: Carolina, Roger Jr., Elijah, Isaiah, Ivonne, Isabel, Sarah, James Jr., Hannah, B'ellana and Charlie.
