Rita "Nanny Meek"

Rita married James Tully Meek on September 18th, 1944 in Ottawa. Rita was a member of he armed forces R.C.A.F division during WW2. After James and Rita married. They were discharged from the armed forces. Then they moved to Cornwall ON. Where they raised 5 children. Sandra (1945); James (1947); Catherine (1948); Twins Gary and Gordon (1949).
Rita's career included child care, then as a cook for a wealthy family in Montreal she did this job as a young adult , starting at age 16. While in the Armed Forces, Rita worked as a cook.
Before the armed forces Rita worked as a stripper at a tobacco company. (She always joked about that). When living in Cornwall Rita worked as a cook at St. Joseph's Villa.

She was always referred to as Nanny Meek by all. Especially by her grandchildren.
Nanny Meek was always singing her favorite songs, which the grandchildren loved and still remember. She also liked to cook for all of us, especially desserts, which is what she did at St. Joseph's Villa. Her title was Pastry Chef. Her favorite desserts were sticky buns and butter tarts. Which her family and co-workers looked forward to so often. She had her own bakery section at St. Joseph's Villa. She had huge bins for mixing recipes and a huge ovens to bake her products. Also carts with many levels for cooling the baked goods.
Nanny sure liked her work and when she retired, she took up baking for her senior friends at The Seniors Club on Pitt Street in Cornwall.
