Rita's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Rita Anne Koss on May 13, 2025. Born to Mathilda and William Wieland on December 11, 1940, in Dazey, ND, Rita was a beacon of generosity, love, and warmth. Throughout her life, she brought light and joy to everyone she touched.
A profound commitment to others defined Rita’s life. A graduate of The College of St. Benedict and with a Master’s Degree from University of Wisconsin, she taught English as a second language to immigrants, opened her home to care for sick relatives, and welcomed refugees into her community with warmth and open arms. Her hospitality and kindness extended across generations, and she hosted large, joyful family gatherings year after year.
Rita married her husband of 35 years, John F Koss, on December 21, 1968 and one of her greatest joys was raising their three sons, Paul, Mark, and Mike, Rita’s influence guided them to become the men they are today, and her compassion, strength, and boundless love remain the foundation of their lives today.
Rita is survived by her sons, Paul, Mark, and Mike Koss; their wives, Heather, Khoo, and Katherine Koss; her grandchildren, Xander, Cam, Lilly, Emma, Ryan and Cora; her sisters, JoAnn Weiland, Linda Sen and Donna Krisch; brothers Paul and Mark Weiland, and numerous extended family and friends who mourn the loss of this remarkable woman. She was predeceased by her husband John, two sisters and five brothers.
