Rick J. Smith, age 66, of Bloomington, MN died on November 20, 2024, after a short battle with a rare and aggressive type of cancer.

He graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in Political Science and English and American Studies. He spent the majority of his career in higher education holding many positions including multiple as Vice President. He was very passionate about many things including helping first generation and disadvantaged college students succeed. He was especially proud to be involved with the indigenous communities for multiple of the institutions he worked for.

But above all, Rick cherished his time with his family the most. Along with being a father to children and stepchildren, Rick was also a partner. Rick loved with his whole heart and gave his everything to the people he loved.

A memorial will be held at Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Bloomington, MN on Friday, December 13th beginning with a visitation at 1pm, a service starting at 2 pm with a reception to follow.
