Richard's obituary
Richard William Murphy
July 31, 1961 – October 30, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Richard William Murphy. Born on July 31, 1961, in Trenton, New Jersey, to William I. Murphy Sr. and Marion Reichey Murphy. Richard departed this life on October 30, 2025.
Richard was a devoted social worker who earned his Master of Social Work from Bakersfield University and his Bachelor’s degree from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Raised in Clifton Park, New York, he graduated from Shenendehowa High School before embarking on a distinguished career dedicated to helping others. For 18 years, Richard served Kern County Child Protection Services with compassion and integrity, retiring just last year. His humor, warmth, generosity, and steadfast commitment to improving lives touched countless individuals and will remain an enduring legacy.
Richard cherished his family deeply, especially his sister, Ann-Marie Murphy, his niece, Micaela K. Caudillo, and his nephew, Anthony P. Caudillo. He also treasured his many friendships and cared for friends’ children as if they were his own. He is survived by his sister, niece, and nephew. Richard now joins his parents and siblings—Dr. William I. Murphy, Dr. Kathleen M. Murphy, and James F. Murphy—in eternal rest.
We will miss Richard dearly, as will all whose lives he enriched. His bright spirit and compassionate heart will never be forgotten. Celebration of Life will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield on December 13, 2025 at 1:00PM.
