Background
On September 2nd, 2024, we received the heartbreaking news that our beloved father and husband, Richard V. Tolbert Sr., passed away unexpectedly at his home in Monrovia, Liberia. We, his children and surviving wife, are profoundly moved by the outpouring of love and support we've received during this painful time. Richard was a man of tremendous influence, love, and integrity, whose passing leaves an unfillable void in our family and the broader Liberian community.
Arranging a funeral in Liberia comes with many challenges, including significant costs. As we cope with our deep grief and the logistics of organizing an overseas funeral, we invite family, friends, and loved ones to join us in honoring his legacy by contributing towards his burial expenses and helping bring his surviving wife, Celestine Tolbert, and their children (Renee, John, Richard Jr., and Frank) to Liberia. The wake and funeral services are scheduled for October 4th and 5th, 2024, and we would deeply appreciate donations sooner rather than later to ensure we can meet the necessary arrangements. Half of the proceeds will go toward the funeral services, while the other half will assist with airfare and lodging for his surviving family.
