Richard's obituary

Mr. Richard Thompson, age 83, of the South Thompson Community, died Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. He was a native of Toombs County and lived in South Thompson most of his life. He was a 1955 graduate of Vidalia High School where he played basketball, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He worked in the forestry industry for over forty years and was owner/operator of Brandi J. Logging. He was a member and deacon of South Thompson Baptist Church and the Senior Men Sunday School Class. He loved lake fishing, especially at Lake Oconee. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sherri Williams and Brandi Thompson; one grandson, Phillip Butler; parents, Prince and Annie Thompson; one brother, Larry Thompson; and one sister, Betty Lewis.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Jean Dixon Thompson; three sons, Ricky Thompson, James Thompson and wife Tressie, and Kenny Thompson and wife Lisa, all of South Thompson; grandchildren, Heather Mead, Amber Regalado, Justin Thompson, Cody Thompson and wife Angela, Lindsey Wiggins and Conner Wiggins; great-grandchildren, Anslie Mead, Landry Mead, Matlin Mead, Myra Mead, Alyssa Regalado, Noah Thompson and Rebecca Thompson; three brothers, Bob Thompson, Gene Thompson and wife Lynda, all of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Ronald Thompson of Ivor, Virginia; two sisters, Abbie Jo Tippett and Sara Register, both of the Center Community; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, December 17th, at 3:00 p.m. in Pinecrest Cemetery with Pastor B.L. Horne officiating.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery on Thursday afternoon from 2:00 until just prior to the service.
