Richard's obituary
Richard Gibson Stemp, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, at the age of 77. Born on December 11, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Edward and Elizabeth Stemp, Richard was a man of warmth, intelligence, and resilience.
After training as a medical technologist in Philadelphia, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy. He served proudly at the Navy Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, during the Vietnam War, providing medical support and embodying a dedication to service that remained with him throughout his life.
Richard built a successful career as a Sales Executive in the medical electronics industry and, later in life, fulfilled his entrepreneurial dreams by establishing his own medical supply company. He was known for his intelligence, work ethic, and warmth in all his professional and personal pursuits.
Richard’s love for knowledge was evident in his passion for reading; he was often found with multiple books open at once, savoring subjects from Civil War history to Fiction and everything in between. His love of learning and curiosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine Ahlum Stemp; his two sons, Mark (Giso) Stemp of Fairfax, VA, and Eric Stemp of Broomfield, CO; and his cherished granddaughter, Madison Stemp of Broomfield, CO; and his brother, Gary, of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra.. He was a pillar of strength and kindness to his family and will be deeply missed.
Richard’s family and friends will remember him fondly and celebrate his life in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice, reflecting Richard’s generous spirit and love for helping others. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
