Richard's obituary
Richard Paul Spratt, age 62, of Decatur, AL, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Richard was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 19, 1962, and was raised in Bethel Park, PA. Rich is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lisa (Blumer) Spratt, sons Preston (Monica) Spratt of Huntsville, AL, Jacob Spratt of Arlington, VA, and Philip Spratt of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter Sunny Marie Spratt of Huntsville, AL; siblings Jeffrey (Sherri) Spratt of Columbus, OH, Teresa DiGiorgio of Prescott, AZ, and Stephen (Crista) Spratt of Bellefonte, PA. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Kathleen Spratt, and in-laws Arthur and Rita Blumer.
Rich was a natural born leader, with a dynamic personality and one-of-a-kind sense of humor. Rich was a dedicated worker and succeeded in key management positions in the restaurant industry, opening several restaurants in the Huntsville area. He was also heavily involved in the local Parkinson's community, serving as the President of the Huntsville Parkinson’s Support Group. Rich’s humor and can-do attitude provided motivation to the discouraged and helped those struggling through tough times. Richard was a devoted Christian and very dedicated to his children, leading him to be heavily involved in youth ministry and activities. He displayed his creativity and humor when he created original lessons and themes for Bible studies, church plays, and Vacation Bible School (often giving his children parts that garnered the loudest laughs). Rich instilled lessons of hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship to his children and their teammates when he coached youth soccer and basketball. Whether it be kicking the soccer ball with his children, getting sunburned while participating in an ultimate frisbee league, or cheering on Alabama football, Rich loved the spirit of competition. Rich especially enjoyed working out at Rock Steady Boxing in Huntsville. Rich's character and personality have left indelible marks on his family, friends, and acquaintances. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. He was one of a kind.
At Richard's request, his body will be donated to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center to be used for the advancement of medical science. At this time, no public service is planned.
