Dr. Richard Edward Schofield, 76, of Abilene, TX passed away on March 19, 2022.

Richard Edward Schofield was born to Richard and Jean Schofield on March 8, 1946 in Trenton, New Jersey. Richard served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. He earned his undergraduate degree from Lafayette University, his master’s from the University of Arizona, and his PhD from Rutgers University in 1982. Richard taught earth sciences at McMurry University for 30 years. He enjoyed geology, taking walks, and spending time with his family.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Franklin Schofield, and his mother, Jean Estelle Rustay Schofield.

A loving husband and caring father, Richard is survived by his wife, Jane Ann Rutledge Schofield; son, Richard Franklin Schofield; and daughter, Jeanette Kathryn Schofield.

Burial will be 11:00am on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Services are under the direction of Girdner Funeral Home, 141 Elm Street.

Memorial services will be held Friday, April 1 at 2pm at Aldersgate United Methodist church. Reception will immediately follow.

Donations in remembrance of Richard may be given to the Abilene Food Bank.
