Richard's obituary
Not because of what I've done, But because of who You are…
You’ve told me who I am. I am Yours.”
-Casting Crowns, “Who am I”
Richard Paul Romine, 60, died Monday, February 17, 2020 after a short, but valiant fight with Pancreatic Cancer. The lyrics above were some of Richard’s favorites and describe his understanding of the life-changing beauty of the Gospel he embraced. His family will receive friends Friday, February 21st, 2-3 PM at Grace Evangelical Church, Germantown. The memorial service will follow in the sanctuary.
Richard was born September 21st, 1959 in Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio to Reed and Myrna Romine. Growing up near Dayton Ohio, he was a student athlete and an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Tecumseh High School in New Carlisle, Ohio and continued his education at THE Ohio State University, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. In 1981, Richard began his career in Courtland, Alabama with Champion Paper Company.
It was in this paper mill that Richard met the woman that would change his life forever. He became best friends with Sharon Turberville. That friendship evolved into a deep love, and after a marathon long-distance relationship, Sharon and Richard were married April 25th, 1987. They were happily married nearly 33 years, lived in 5 states and raised a daughter, Lexi, a son, Jeffrey, and 3 corgis together. Their commitment to their family, expanding God’s kingdom and each other was evident everywhere they went.
Richard was with the same company for all 38 years of his career. He came to International Paper through the Champion acquisition. His last role with the company was as HR Director, Global Performance and Development. Richard saw his work as a large part of his ministry. He was a caring servant leader and an accomplished facilitator. He had deep expertise in the areas he was responsible for and was a constant learner. Recognizing the need to share his gifts, Richard also gave his time and leadership acumen to numerous charitable organizations.
Richard was an amazing father. He loved Lexi and Jeffrey deeply and always told them how proud he was of them. He was an adventurous dad who shared his love of travel and sports. Richard also challenged his children to seek out diversity and encouraged them to be their best. He will be remembered as a stabilizing force in our family.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Romine, daughter Alexandra Lewis (Jacob), son Jeffrey Romine (Malory), father Reed, brothers Phillip Romine (Sharon) and Larry Romine (Mary); and very special nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Grace Evangelical GraceVenture Fund or Bible Study Fellowship would be appreciated.
