Richard's obituary
Richard Alan Rogers II, 57, of Canton, Ohio, passed away on October 09, 2024 after a 20 month battle with the rare sarcoma, CIC-DUX4. During this entire time, he held his head high and kept a positive attitude. He fought so hard, but after multiple invasive surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy sessions, his body could not handle any more.
Richard was born on July 24, 1967 to Richard and Patricia Rogers in Akron, Ohio. Richard graduated from Garfield High School and went on to work at various establishments including 7-11, Swan Hardware, DIY, the United States Postal Service and Lowes, where he was appreciated for his handiness and dedication. His work ethic won him the respect and friendship of many colleagues and customers. In 1994, he met Misty Hayes, and they wed in 1999, going on to have 1 daughter, Skyler Alicia. Anyone who knew Richard knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. His family and friends meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was a dedicated husband, father, and friend, always ready to lend a hand, a listening ear, or to share a laugh, making every moment with him memorable. Richard was known for his kind, funny, and considerate nature. He loved watching Harry Potter and Star Wars movies, collecting Star Wars memorabilia, building models, tinkering in the garage and basement, visiting the zoo, or just chatting with the neighbors. He was uniquely talented with his ability to fix or build anything mechanical, computerized, or made with lumber. Richard was predeceased by his mother, father, and stepfather (William Smith). He is survived by his wife, daughter, sister (Shelly Mayes), and 3 nieces (Jessica, Tori and Casie).
A memorial service will be held next summer at the family farm in Sarahsville, Ohio where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and celebrate his life. Richard's life was marked by his warmth and the deep bonds he formed with those around him, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
