Dick's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard E. "Dick" Piper, 80, who left us peacefully on August 13, 2024 following a lengthy illness. Born on August 3, 1944, Dick lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of everyone who knew him. His voice, both literally and metaphorically, was a beacon of strength and wisdom within his community.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Debra. Together, they explored the world, embracing the joys of travel and forming friendships that spanned across the globe. Dick had a magnetic personality, and his love for life was truly infectious.
Dick worked from an early age; in addition to many years as an automotive mechanic, he was proud to be a master electrician and, in later years, an electrical inspector for Winnebago County. His philosophy was clear - "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." He approached every endeavor with this mindset, ensuring his efforts were marked by dedication and excellence.
Dick's zest for life also found expression in his culinary adventures. As a Master Certified KCBS BBQ Judge, Dick was an accomplished cook who was always willing to experiment in the kitchen.
He is survived by his wife, Debra. Also surviving are children, Lisa Lynn Peck, Kimberly (Lyle) Severson, Richard (Lisa) Swanson, Holly (Chad) Wiese, and 9 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Erling and Josephine Piper, sisters, Sally Johnson and Joann Walker, and son, Toby Piper.
Although we mourn the loss of this wonderful man, we also celebrate the incredible life he led. The Celebration of Life for Dick will take place on October 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Boone Lake located at 3892 Dawson Lake Rd, Poplar Grove, IL. We invite all those who knew and loved Dick to join us in celebrating his life.
Dick's legacy will forever endure in the lessons he imparted and the lives he touched. His mantra, "Life is not supposed to be boring - live it up," encapsulates his approach to life. As we honor his memory, may we all aspire to embrace life with the same passion and joy that Dick did.
