It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Richard "Dick" Nielsen SR. who left this world on January 12, 2025. Born on September 15, 1944 in Greenwich, CT, Dick lived a fulfilling life as a man known for his infectious personality and generous heart, leaving memorable footprints on the lives of many.
Dick was a beacon of light and friendship to all who had the good fortune of knowing him. His warmth, bubbly personality, and capacity to make friends wherever he went made him unforgettable. He was a true people person who left a mark on every heart he crossed. He had a heart of pure gold, always going the extra mile to lend a helping hand to those in need. His generous spirit shone through in every gesture, often known to give you the very shirt off his back if it could help.
Having spent his life on the open road, Dick was not only a loving husband, father, and friend, but also a lifelong truck driver. His tales from his journeys were shared with such passion and vivacity that one could almost feel as if they were there with him, experiencing the beauty of the many places he had been to.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Joy Nielsen, and his children - Julie Meckley, Julie Kramm, Tracy Ross, Richard Nielsen JR., Eric Nielsen, Tammie Nielsen, Jeffrey Nielsen, Kimberly Nielsen Shohan, Jason Nielsen, 25 Grandchildren, 25 Great-Grandchildren and a host of Nieces and Nephews. His memory also lives on in the hearts of those who predeceased him, including his mother Elizabeth Thomson, his father Albert Nielsen, his sister Elizabeth Zeranski, his brothers Robert and Donald Nielsen, his daughter Cheryl Nielsen, and his grandson Shane Slinsky.
While we mourn the loss of this extraordinary man, we also celebrate the life he led and the ways he touched our lives. Richard "Dick" Nielsen SR. may be gone, but his spirit, stories, and the love he shared will live on in our hearts forever.
