I met Richard Ross in Austin, Texas. His beloved daughter, Erica, and I had become fast friends in the first months of arriving. The three of us chatted like northeasterners do—riffing off of one another over a shared meal. Richard Ross was clearly a legend. I remember really appreciating his earnestness, and being amused by his stories. But what still lingers many years later is how much he loved Erica, and the deep adoration they had for each other. In between laughter and banter, they said it in looks. They said it in their shared holiday traditions, their daily conversations, the unique ways they cared for one another.
Over the years, it has been a great pleasure to hear stories from the amazing life of Richard Ross, and I know they will continue to circulate for years to come, wherever loved ones gather 💛

From his Union IBEW Local 1212 (https://ibew1212.org/news/ric…)
It is with deep sorrow that we recognize the passing of Brother Richard Ross. While we mourn this loss, we also reflect on the lasting impact he made within IBEW Local 1212 and beyond.
Richard was a man who wore many hats with pride and purpose—serving as an Executive Board Member, a skilled engineer in the radio industry, and a dedicated advocate for his fellow workers. His kindness, professionalism, and steady presence left a mark on all who had the privilege to know him.
He was more than a colleague; he was a brother in every sense of the word. An IBEW member since 1963, Richard stood firmly in support of the labor movement and worked tirelessly to uplift those around him. His contributions as a bargaining unit member at WADO-AM in Teaneck, NJ demonstrated his commitment to fairness, solidarity, and the well-being of his peers.
Above all, Richard will be remembered for his generous spirit, his integrity, and the quiet strength with which he carried himself. His legacy will live on through the work he championed and the lives he touched.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who mourn his passing. Brother Ross will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
*Brother Richard Ross will have a celebration of life hosted by his Daughter Erica Ross on April 12, 2026. A link has been posted if you wish to comment on Richard’s contributions throughout his life.
The Union extends their wishes to Richard’s family. May his spirit live on.
In response to "What always reminds you of Richard?"

After 9/11 Richard and I worked together in New York. Richard and I had an adventure. We watched and got the backstage tour of the David Letterman show at the Ed Sullivan theater. Something I will never forget. Danny DeVito was the guest. Richard helped a guy who had grown up in Texas navigate the waters of New York.

When I became the GM of NY Radio the first time, several of us were driving around in New Jersey, including Richard. I wanted to treat everyone to a lunch sandwich so we stopped at a small Cuban deli that only made Cuban steak sandwiches with French fries. We all ordered and were enjoying the sandwiches. Richard was a trooper and did not want to disturb the flow. I came to find out later that Richard was a vegetarian and that was the first time he had eaten meat in years. I felt bad, but like the good man that he was he said- no big deal! He was the air of positivity always! I’ll miss you Richard. Felix Perez

I remember first meeting the man the myth in New York. I had driven you in a yellow rider van to move Erica to New York. He took us to lunch or dinner one night. During the meal Erica went to the bathroom and he looked at me and said “thank you for taking care of Erica, she trusts you and I do to. And it gives me a lot of peace to see her taken care of”. Then she returned and he told me about his last big train trip while pulling the schedule from his pocket to confirm the timings as he remembered them.

My condolences to Richard's family. I met Richard back when Univision purchased the radio stations and we immediately hit it off. He always had fun quips and a unique perspective on things. His sharp wit is greatly missed. He was also a great mentor to me while learning the radio side of the business. I always enjoyed our chats about Pennsylvania and giving him updates on WADO after he retired. May he rest in peace.

My late husband, Rick, often spoke of Richard as a person who defied tradition, challenged assumptions, and shared his wholehearted love of life as well as his daughter, Erica. Through him, we have had the good fortune to get to spend time with her. Richard was a wonderful role model. May his memory be a blessing.
