Richard's obituary

Richard B. Morris, 87, of Brunswick, departed this life Monday, July 18, 2016, at Hospice of The Golden Isles. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, July 21, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick with The Rev. Chris Noyes and The Rev. Jim Crandall officiating. Entombment will follow at Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens on St. Simons Island. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Coty, Arthur Cook, Russell Gladding, Don Peters, Jim Haddon, Don Heins, Frank Vande Linde, Wally Mathis, Bill Ray, Roy Scarborough, and Don Farnell.

Born October 27, 1928, in Brunswick to the late Richard B. Morris, Sr. and Esther W. Moran, he was a graduate of Glynn Academy Class of 1946, and a graduate of Georgia Military College. Mr. Morris was also a veteran of the US Army. He spent most of his life in Glynn County and was a former employee of Leotis and Company. He retired from Jacksonville Paper Company/Unijax as a sales representative.

Mr. Morris was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick where he served as a deacon, elder, and elder emeritus. He was an avid fisherman and also served on the Board of Directors of Manna House, was a former member of Northside Kiwanis Club, and was past president of The Brunswick Jaycees. Mr. Morris was said to have never met a stranger.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Mariellen S. Morris of Brunswick, two sons William Morris and wife Eureka of Brunswick, Robert Morris and wife Sara of Grand Island, NY, two grandchildren, Natalee Cross and husband James, and Elizabeth Morris, and a sister-in- law Betty Jo Strickland of Brunswick.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home. www.edomillerandsons.com
