Richard's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard "Dick" Mannie, 83. Richard was a beloved husband, father, veteran, and friend known for his love of life, generosity, and kindness.

Richard was born on May 19, 1942, to Lynn Charles Mannie and Lillian Sophie Mannie (née Kukas) in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating from South High School in 1960, he immediately chose to serve his country, joining the U.S. Army that same year. His dedication to service continued when, in 1964, he exchanged his army greens for navy blues, further enriching his distinguished military career. In 1969, Richard transitioned to civilian life, first working as a pipe fitter before beginning a long and fulfilling career with the Metropolitan Transit Commission. Over the years, he received numerous accolades, including several Outstanding Driver Awards, an Elite Operator Award, and ultimately the Superior Master Driver honor. After 33 years of service, he retired in 2004.

In 1970, Richard married Janice Jones in Minneapolis. Together, they shared 25 wonderful years and raised two sons, John and Charles.

Richard was an avid storyteller who loved entertaining family and friends with tales from his life. He enjoyed spending time outdoors—especially golfing, fishing, sailing, and boating—and also found joy in playing the guitar and ballroom dancing.

In 2015, Richard moved to Ormond Beach, Florida, to enjoy his golden years with his two remaining siblings. There, he embraced the sunshine and filled his days with golf, woodworking, reading, and crossword puzzles.

Richard is survived by his sons John (Eileen Arcilla) and Charles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, and 9 brothers and sisters

A private celebration of life and burial at Fort Snelling National cemetery will be held at a later date.
