Richard's obituary

Richard Merritt Longmire

Richard Merritt Longmire, 73, beloved father, grandfather and dear friend passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Born May 2, 1951 in Yakima, Washington to Dorothy and Jerry Longmire, Rich built his life and legacy in the communities of Selah, Spokane and Yakima, Washington. For 35 years he shared his life with RoseMarie Longmire (Bateman), raising three children together: Ryan Merritt Longmire, Randyl Mark Longmire, and Rana Michele Reason (Longmire).

A graduate of Eastern Washington University, Richard dedicated over five decades to the field of information technology, specializing as an IT Analyst for medical systems. His passion for technology and education led him to share his expertise as an instructor at Yakima Valley Community College, teaching information technology and computer science courses, impacting countless students with his knowledge and guidance.

Richard was a man of diverse interests and endless curiosity. A passionate music lover and dedicated fisherman who never missed a chance for a pre-dawn fishing expedition on the lake, he found joy in the pages of Isaac Asimov's science fiction, perfecting his golf game, cheering for his beloved Seattle Mariners, and exploring new horizons through travel. He often shared cherished memories of his European adventures, particularly his time in Paris and London, along with a Caribbean cruise, and delighted in recounting tales of his RV adventures along the West Coast. His faith was central to his life, and he remained an active member of the Jehovah's Witnesses wherever his travels took him.

He is survived by his three children, seven grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life, his brother Steve Longmire (Betty), his aunt Norma Longmire, Uncle Cliff Cope (Charlotte), Cousin Mike Cope (Chris), and numerous cousins who will carry his memory forward.

A memorial service and reception celebrating Richard's life will be held at Keith & Keith in Yakima, Washington on February 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm, 902 W Yakima Ave, 98902

Richard's warm presence, dedication to family, and passion for learning will be deeply missed and cherished by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched as a father, grandfather, educator, and friend.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Frank and Tammy Bass, and the Selah, WA friends who supported Rich in many ways. Also Chris Williams, and David Klug from Lake Havasu, AZ for their friendship and support during Richard's time there.
