How you can help

In July of 2020, Richard was sent to the emergency room at Valley Medical Center in San Jose with extremely high blood pressure. The medical staff noticed his blood sugar was in a very high range. He was diagnosed with being insulin resistant and having Type II Diabetes. Soon after he was released, he experienced blurry vision where there was a build up of fluids in his left eyeball. The doctors tried to drain the fluid, but eventually he lost vision on that side and loss the ability to drive himself around. That same summer he was hospitalized now at Kaiser in San Jose for vomiting up blood. The physician informed him that both of his kidneys were failing and that he will be needing dialysis treatments on a weekly basis. He was placed on a kidney donor list in the following year of 2021. Richard tried his best to resume his life and go to work while going to a dialysis clinic three times a week to have his blood filtered.

Richard has a family history of diabetes and struggled with the disease for most of his life. His maternal grandmother, Lu Pi Yin, also had regular dialysis treatments. In August 2020, Richard was given the opportunity to undergo surgery to that would allow him to perform daily dialysis treatments at home through an opening placed on his body. Even though going through dialysis treatment was painful and draining to him, he continued to undergo these life sustaining treatments. He was even hesitant to be put on the kidney donor list and undergo surgery, but his mother comforted him by mentioning that in the long term it would be less painful than dialysis treatments and instilled hope that he could live an independent life again.

Unfortunately, Richard was laid off from his job in early 2021 and spent the remainder of his days in Tracy, CA. In the last two days before his passing, Richard found it increasingly difficult to breathe and on the morning of June 18, 2022 he took his last breathe to return to his Heavenly Father. With his unexpected death, Richard nor his family had enough time to save for his funeral expenses and that is why we're raising money to help support Richard's family members during this difficult time. Donations will go towards providing Richard with a funeral service he deserves. We are incredibly grateful for everyone's love and support.
