Richard's obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Richard "Dick" Leland, a man of great depth, lovingly known as Richard, on October 14, 2025. Born on May 18, 1933, Richard lived a fulfilling life filled with love, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the arts, particularly music.
Richard is survived by his loving daughters, Lisa Lara, Christine Leland, and Stephanie Vidak, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Samantha Sorrells, Joshua Olsen, and Anthony Castile, whose lives were profoundly shaped by his warmth, caring, and loving nature. He was a beacon of light to his family, imparting wisdom in each interaction.
Richard was a devoted fan of the Stan Kenton Band, delighting in their music and weaving it into the fabric of his daily life. A lover of the visual and performing arts, he had a particular fondness for the classic TV show, Star Trek, and the iconic movie series, Star Wars. Indeed, Richard's love for music and art were so deep that they were not merely hobbies, but a means of expression for him.
Indeed, Richard's role as an inspiring music teacher and mentor was one of his greatest accomplishments. Through this, he touched on countless lives, instilling in his students a love for music that paralleled his own. However, nothing brought him more joy than his family. He was a dedicated and loving family man, a role he cherished above all else.
Richard was a pillar of kindness, generosity, caring, and laughter. This legacy lives on in his family and everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He was the adored husband of Kathy Leland, sharing 64 beautiful and loving years of marriage. His loss leaves behind a void that no one can fill. Yet, his influence will live on, for his was a life marked by love, music, and laughter.
We mourn his passing deeply, but we also celebrate his extraordinary life. May he rest in peace as his legacy of love and music continues to resonate with us all.
