Richard's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Jellow, a beloved husband and respected figure in the museum lighting world, who passed away on April 27, 2025. Richard was born on September 7, 1948, and throughout his journey of 76 years, he touched many lives with his thoughtful, kind, and patient demeanor.

In 1988, Rick married the love of his life, Karen Colbert. Devoted and loving, Rick's relationship with Karen was a testament to the kind of man he was - caring, supportive, and endlessly patient. Rick and Karen shared a deep bond, one that was not only seen in their love for each other but also in their shared love for dogs. Rick's sense of humor and wit made it so there was always laughter around him. He was a man who believed in the power of listening - a lesson he preached and practiced regularly.

Rick's intelligent mind and strong work ethic were instrumental in his personal and professional life. His career started in hospitality, working in restaurants, and creating his own venues before going into the lighting industry. His journey in lighting started at LTM and Barbizon before starting his own company  which he successfully sold. He then joined JF Hocquard to create Luxam in the US. He was a driving force behind the growth and success of Luxam, a testament to his hard work and unwavering commitment to museum lighting.

Richard was a man who found joy in simplicity. A plate of potatoes, cooked in any way, would bring a smile to his face and he found peace in the simple comforts of home. A fan of reading, world politics, Red Sox, Patriots and NY Giants.

Richard's legacy will continue to live on through his wife, Karen Colbert. She survives him, carrying with her the memories of a life well-lived, a love well-shared, and a man well-loved. The absence of Richard Jellow will be strongly felt by all who had the privilege to know him and his contributions to the museum and lighting world and beyond will not be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Rick.
