Richard's obituary

Mr. Richard Purcell High (Rick), age 59, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday April 26, 2021.  

He was born on June 2, 1961 in Fort Eustis, VA to the late Richard High Sr. and Katie Williams.  He is survived by his spouse, Karen High, his two sons Sherrod High and Carlton High and his daughter Brianna High.  He is also survived by his three brother Donald High (Deborah) and his sister Janice; five grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rick graduated from Bethel High school in 1979 and went on to get his Associates degree from Thomas Nelson Community College.  He then went to work at Gatley Communications in 1982 as a radio technician.

Rick would later go on to work for the City of Richmond and the City of Suffolk in their communications departments until he retired on disability in 2016.  He was known for his ability to solve problems and always put his everything into whatever task was before him.

He had a love for music and began playing the drums and bass guitar at an early age.  In 1977 he joined Ivy Baptist Church and played the bass guitar for their choirs.  He stayed there until he met the love of his life in 1990 at a wedding reception.  He then left Ivy and followed his soon to be wife to First Baptist Church Morrison where he began to play the bass guitar for their choirs. They married on September 19, 1992 in Hampton, VA and then moved to Chesterfield County, VA where they started a family. In 1998 he was called to preach and began his ministry of spiritual warfare.  He was a great teacher, leader and mentor.

He and the family moved back to Newport News in 2003.  In 2009 theyfound a new church home at World Outreach Worship Center where he began playing the electric and bass guitars for their music ministry. Rick was always deeply involved in his community and church.  He loved to play music and he loved playing softball with the community leagues.

Anyone who truly knew Rick also knew his love for cars.  He was able tospend his early retirement days riding in and working on his 350Z.  He enjoyed riding to car meets with his Z crew and entering car shows. 

Rick loved worship and was ready to play at any time because that was his heart.  He was a warrior, worshipper and lover of God and people.

Viewing for Mr. High will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon, Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at World  Outreach Worship Center, 1233 Shields Road, Newport News, Virginia 23608.

Services for Mr. Williams will take place at noon, Wednesday, May 5, 2021  at World  Outreach Worship Center with with Pastor Russell Evenson presiding.
