I was saddened when I heard the news of Rich's passing. I reflected on my association with Rich as we were both navigating temporary job loss at the same time. We were both working on a project for his son Dave. I remember the time we drove together and worked together. Rich was so kind to me. I felt like he was treating me like his own son. Ever since that time, I would see a sparkling light in his eyes to see our family. We shared many similarities. We both worked in the computer field. We both had seven children. We both loved sports. We are both passionate BYU fans. I think he loved telling me many stories to pass our time together. Time passed quickly and joyfully.

To me, Rich is a cherished friend that I look forward to meeting again! Soon, I hope... Come, Jesus, come!

I see Rich's personality and spiritual strength in those of his children that I have been blessed to know.  Rich is a great example to me of how to be patient in the Lord to guide us through our challenging times.

My life is full of memories with Richard from the time I was about two years old. He was my companion, my guardian and my protector. I followed him like a shadow and he loved me like I was HIS shadow. Richard took me everywhere with him that he was going to play no matter what group of boys it was with. From the time we lived with grandma and grandpa in SLC until we moved to Calif and then it continued.  We made Angel's in the snow at grandma's, played cars, climbed on the trash box trying to get over the fence to the Eastman backyard so we didn't have to walk to the corner and around the street a couple houses down.. That didn't last long though, I guess  grandpa caught him! I  was only three the follower ! Richard always had a mind for business.  when in elementary school he figured different was to earn money. He would ask me "Shirley, you want make a lot of money?"  Of course I said yes. He had picked oranges off the trees in our back yard. After he had the bags loaded into the wagon he would say "ok you pull the wagon " and off we would go down the block. Down hill wasn't bad, but coming home was another story. Months later here it came "hey Shirley want to make a lot of money?" The wagon was full of boxes of Greeting Cards. "OK you pull the wagon." Repeat. ... strangely I never did make any money!!! Seems I actually didn't ever think about it, I was happy being with Richard. Then there were the rides to elementary school on the handle bars of his bike, down hill! When I think about that now I cringe. Playing cowboys with he and his friends in the barn up the street and he even let shoot his cap gun. Climbing the huge rocks up the block that were slippery on the sides, going to the reservoir two blocks over and getting pomegranates off the tree. The soap box races down the hill on the block behind us. Rides to Seminary at 5:45 A.M. then to High School in the rumble seat of the Model A. Then came his mission call to Scotland .  Going to school after that was never the same. I think mama bought stock in Kleenex Co. He left Diane and I both broken hearted even though we knew he was serving the Lord .  Once again Diane and I are here with our Kleenex while Richard has gone ahead on another mission and this time he and Ted are waiting for Diane and I to join them on that  mission 💞 Thanks Richard for always taking care of me. Until I catch up with you, I love you forever Squirley
