Message to Richie:  Your kids turned out great, finishing college and doing all the things you would have wanted them to do.  Everybody enjoyed going to Katie's wedding last Spring.  We know you were there  cause your bell was ringing strongly.  Really glad your Mama was able to make it before the Lord called her  home.

Your old lady is busy as usual.  She's teaching, working out with the  girls and ready with the lowdown.  You did a great job building your family and they are carrying it on to the next generation.

Keep an eye out for us down here.

We definitely miss the mayor of Steele Creek!!!
Happy birthday to a guy that I think about often.  Much love to the whole family.

Denise, Please know that I am keeping you and all of your family in my thoughts & prayers. I'm so thankful to have been a part of your family through knowing your mother. All of you are very special people and it breaks my heart that you are going through this. I pray for peace, comfort and strength through this most difficult time in your life. Please know I am only a phone call away if I can help in any way. May GOD bless all of you and watch over you. I love you.
Love and will miss you Cuz, I wish I could have made it there but circumstances this week have prevented me being able to. Denise we are keeping you and the kids close to our heart even though distance is keeping us apart. Aunt Gloria and Uncle Rich, miss you and wish I could give you a big hug.
When I think of Richie I recall all the times during get togethers he would always thumb wrestle with my Mother, it was a thing they had. I remember all the times as a child I went and watched him play ball at Carl Pugh Park. Watching the crowd cheer loudly when he would hit his Grayum Slams always amazed me. I played ball growing up, mostly because of him even though I sucked at it. He was then and always continued being a great role model as he grew older. His love of baseball never wavered, he used his many years of experience and knowledge to pass on the traditions teaching kids how to play. He has left his mark on so many people that he will never be forgotten, not many of us would be able to do that.
Even though I am not there in person, I am there in spirit with a heavy heart while watching the service online. Love ya Cuz.
Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Richie...My deepest condolences to the Grayum family. Richie was an amazing teammate (MSU '86-'89) and friend.. Thanks for the memories "34"
My heart goes out to Denise, Katie, and Jack. Richie is truly one of a kind. His passion for his family and baseball was clearly evident by the joy and his devotion. He and Denise raised two of the finest children you could ever meet in Jack and Katie. Richie was a mentor to me as far as coaching baseball but also about life and the way he attacked his battle with cancer is a great example of the "Bulldog" in him. The emotions poured out by my son Josh upon learning of Richie's death showed me the impact Richie had on his life. And the love Josh had for Richie is shared by so many of the kids in the Steele Creek area as Richie was always willing to take the time to share and teach the game of baseball. Richie, it was a true joy to get to know you and I consider myself honored to be considered your friend. On behalf of my wife Jori and sons Derrick and Josh, we LOVE you Richie, Denise, Katie, and Jack. Our prayers will continue to be with you all. God Bless!

Richie always had a ready smile. He was a delight to be around ..Will be missed by so many friends and family.
In response to "What did Richie love to do?"
Nobody was better at bringing a smile to your face or making you laugh than Richie. He knew how to captivate an entire room with his jokes and stories. I’ll miss the tight arm squeezes, the jokes, and the live drum performances (with a metal bowl and a spoon) while my brother and I played guitar. My best memories of Richie are at my parents house in the backyard by the fire, laughing until it hurt. Through all of my life changes throughout the years, Richie was always there to support me and cheer me on. He will be missed by every person who knew him.

Denise, Katie, and Jack, our family will always be here to love and support you.

Love,

Jeff, Stefanie, and Ryder
Tom and I were so sad to hear about Richie's passing. We were so lucky to get to know your family many years ago. Tom really enjoyed working with Richie and spoke of him often with high regards. Wishing you all peace and comfort.
Richie meant so much to the Steele Creek baseball community. I will be forever grateful for the faith he had in Ryan and the confidence he inspired, especially important in those middle school years. He leaves a legacy of teaching, inspiration, and mentorship through all of the young lives that he touched. That is a life well lived.
Richie was an amazing guy...will always remember driving by and stopping and he'd always put his hand on my arm and ask how I was doing....you knew he genuinely wanted to know how you were. He had the most positive and loving personality I have ever come across and I'm honored to have known him. Grayum family -- love you guys to death...if you guys need anything just hollar.
As much as he was a tough guy, Richie was a sweet man who truly cared about the well being of others. Even the simplest of conversations with Richie left me with a feel good feeling. The ability to make others laugh and feel good was truly a gift of his. He will always be in our hearts.
Richie is family to us not by blood but love. He is a dreamer and creator. He would have so many ideas of inventing things for the game of baseball. We are going to miss those tight arm squeezes, jokes mostly dirty and the laughter before the punch line and his smile after a great meal. His love and passion for all sports. But most of all the memories our families made; for Richie that was more important then baseball. We love you Denise, Katie and Jack, we will always be here for you.

My family has been blessed to live on Richie’s street for over 20 years. I say Richie’s street because he was definitely the mayor of Steele Creek. If you needed anything or were just looking for a little fun and a great conversation, Richie was the man to see. As a high school baseball coach, Richie was definitely my best source of knowledge and I could always count on the man for a new drill to get my boys right. The man literally lived and breathed the game. Richie was a great friend and an even better family man. He put up one hell of a fight to stay here with his family. I will miss him, but I know he feels no more pain. He is playing on the great diamond in the sky with all the other baseball greats. We love you pal!
It’s been a while but he was a great coach for me and my little league team. I was pretty close to their family back then and I won’t forget this legend of a man. Thank you coach Richie.
