Our deepest condolences to the family of Richard Thompson. We have fond memories when he lived in Brownsville Texas with his beautiful family. Am touched he remembered my father after all these years and attended his memorial zoom service last December with Mark. May the God of tender mercies and comfort shower your entire family with love. From the Flores family, Seguin, Texas
Richard opened my eyes and heart to the validity of Bible through prophecy which led to my agreement to study. He shared his knowledge which peeked my interest to investigate but did so in such a kind and non judgmental manner.
I always loved the time I got to spend with my uncle Richard. He was kind, loving and very spiritual minded. He was always up for an adventure to go someplace and was a wonderful tour guide. I always looked up to him, especially spiritually because he was such an excellent example. When he signed up to serve Jehovah, he never stopped. His zeal never diminished. He really wanted to see the grand finale. We’ll have to tell him about it on the other side. Sending my love to everyone who he was close to and related to. I know he touched many lives in a very positive way and I’m proud to be a Thompson because of family members like him. I hope I can live up to a shadow of his good example.
Two other girls and I came here in 1969 after being assigned by the branch. Richard and several pioneers met us at the airport. He was our then congregation servant. Mark was a toddler then. After we settled into our own little apartment, he made a shepherding call. The living room was so small that I believe his legs reached across the entire room when he sat down. His advice to us was to remember that we did not come here to teach others how to serve Jehovah. We came to serve Jehovah with them. My pioneer partners and I already felt that way, but we appreciated the kind advice from this seasoned brother who had already enjoyed many privileges in Jehovah's service. He was telling us something to help us be successful in our assignment. Mark and Esther, Bonnie, and Thompson family, we will all miss his warm smile and fatherly advice.
Richard was our circuit overseer in Harrodsburg in the late 60’s. He did a wedding talk for a young couple here. He did the funeral talks for Nancy Wilson & Evelyn Rogers (Sheila’s mother). He was “Jacob” in the “Appreciating Our Spiritual Heritage” drama I had at Louisville 1999 (you were Rachael). We were in the Rahab Drama he had at the Atlanta District ConventIon (late 60’s). So sorry for your loss! Looking forward to making more memories in Paradise!
Richard was a very special part of our life. For nine years we worked together secularly. He always was training us spiritually while we worked, always kind and always mild. Our pioneer years are filled with so many fond memories. He imitatated Jesus so well.
In imitation of Jesus he could definitely say “ I have made your name known.“-John 17:26
looking forward to seeing him back with us!
Love to all the family. Your spiritual legacy and love for Jehovah is so comforting. May Jehovah comfort you as you await his return.
Dick was a special speaker, and that's why he was asked to give the Kingdom Hall dedication talk in Stanford KY when it was remodeled in 1982 or 3. That's when we first met, and that talk was so good I still remember some of the things he said, such as the fact that Jehovah God is a builder, and so it's natural for us as his children to be builders too. He sure did build a fine servant out of Richard Frank Thompson.!
