Richard "Dick"'s obituary
On December 21st, 2025 Richard " Dick" Shepherd passed away at his home in Mequon, Wisconsin.
Richard was born in Spring Green Wi and grew up in Argonne Wi. He was always proud of being a Wisconsin farm boy. His early years as a Boy Scout led him off the farm into summer employment during high school and college as a member of the Samoset Council, BSA camp staff. The experience that led to an extraordinary career with the Boy Scouts of America beginning in 1961. He dedicated 42 years of his professional life to the Boy Scouts of America, a career defined by purpose, commitment, and an unshakable belief in responsibility, leadership, and service. His career with the Boy Scouts of America took him to several states, including Indiana, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, Indiana, and of course Wisconsin. He took great pride in his work and in the countless young lives shaped through his years of dedication.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat. In the later years of his life, he devoted himself fully to caring for her, a responsibility he took on with loyalty, determination, and a deep sense of duty.
He is also survived by his children: Richard, Kathryn (Tom), and Elizabeth (Chris); his six grandchildren: Thomas, Kaila, Kevin, Cody, Morgan, and Madison; his three great-grandchildren: Lucas, Evelyn, and Violet; and his brother, Bob (Jackie), and their two sons, Rob and Erik.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Roger, and his parents, Elaine and Irvin Shepherd.He was a man who led with conviction. Not always patient or gentle, he was nevertheless proud, dedicated, and deeply committed to his family and to the values he believed in. He taught his children to be hard working, independent and respectful human beings. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and service provider to so many. Those who knew him best understood his strength, his expectations, his stubbornness and the legacy of responsibility he leaves behind.
