Richard's obituary
Richard "Rick" Cardwell II
August 22, 1966 – August 15, 2004
It is with deep sorrow and enduring love that we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Cardwell II, who left us far too soon on August 15, 2004, just one week shy of his 38th birthday.
Rick was born on August 22, 1966, and brought laughter, warmth, and a spark of mischief to the lives of all who knew him. He was a gifted pool player, an avid fan of baseball, and someone who loved the thrill of a good poker game. With his magnetic charm, quick wit, and generous spirit, Rick lit up every room he entered and made lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his cherished and only daughter, Pilar Woods; his loving sisters, Toni and Judy; and his brother, Joe Cardwell. Rick’s absence is deeply felt by his family and the many friends who loved him.
Beneath his humor and vibrant personality, Rick battled personal struggles, including periods of depression and substance abuse. Despite these hardships, he continued to bring joy to others, even during his darkest times.
Rick passed away from an accidental drug overdose. We share this truth openly—not out of shame, but out of hope. He never would have wanted to leave behind his ten-year-old daughter or the many family members and friends who loved him so deeply. By being transparent, we hope his story might inspire someone else who is struggling to seek the help they need. Rick’s life was so much more than its final chapter. He was deeply loved, and he will be missed every single day. If you or someone you love is struggling with substance abuse or mental illness, please reach out. There is help. There is hope.
